Roots Blowers for Cement Industry

Infrastructure development in any economy is of primary importance. A country or state having good infrastructure helps economy grow by attracting good investments. One such sector contributing to growth in infrastructure in developing country like India is Cement Sector. India is one of the major producer and manufacturer of cement with large number of cement manufacturing companies present in the country.

A cement manufacturing plant consists of many stages and various cycles. Roots Blower (Twin Lobe Roots Blower also called Rotary Compressors) are widely used and installed in some of the important operations in cement manufacturing plants. These include charging of kilns, pneumatic conveying of cement and fly ash, aeration of silos, to name a few. The quality of these Roots Blowers should be extremely good and reliable to operate in such stringent and critical conditions of a cement manufacturing plant.

Charging of kiln is one of the critical stages where Roots Blowers (Twin Lobe and Tri Lobe Roots Blowers also called Rotary Compressors) are used. Roots Blowers are also used to pneumatically convey cement and fly ash from one point to another point in a cement manufacturing plant. This helps in swifter and waste free transfer of cement completing the operations on time and thereby increasing total productivity of the plant.

Acme Air Equipments Company Pvt. Ltd., an ISO 9001-2008 certified company, manufactures high quality Roots Blowers. The company has been manufacturing Roots Blowers (Twin Lobe and Tri Lobe Roots Blowers also called Rotary Compressors) since 1990 and has been supplying to some of the leading and quality cement manufacturers in India.

Besides the Roots Blowers, the company also offers Vacuum Pumps, Vacuum Boosters and Pneumatic Conveying Systems like Cement/Fly Ash Conveying System, Dust Collection System and Catalyst Loading/Unloading System.

Cement Conveying System - Cement/Fly Ash Feeding System

Boost in infrastructure is must for global growth. Increased investment in infrastructure projects and its rapid implementation has the potential to drive the growth story of any economy. Accelerated infrastructure investments will not only de-bottleneck the system, it will also create its own demand. This can be best seen in the growth story of country like China where infrastructure has been built and developed at a spectacular pace and this has resulted in double digit growth for China and defied the boom bust theory of economic cycles.

Construction is one such area related extensively to infrastructure. It has become imperative to use innovative technology and efficient systems to increase the overall efficiency of the process. Cement conveying system (cement/fly ash feeding system) is one such example. These systems go hand in hand in the timely completion of construction linked projects which plays a pivotal role in infrastructure growth.

Acme Air Equipments Co. Pvt. Ltd., an ISO 9001-2008 quality certified company, manufactures cement conveying system (cement/fly ash feeding system) of highest quality standards in the state-of-art manufacturing setup along with comprehensive industrial solutions. This covers systems with feeding rate/capacities of up to 50 Tones per hour.

Cement conveying system (cement/fly ash feeding system) is used extensively at batching plant sites where it is used for conveying or feeding cement/fly ash into silos. The optimum productivity of batching plant depends on how fast the cement/fly ash received at site is transferred to batching silos.

Cement is fed into cement conveying system (cement/fly ash feeding system) either from bags or from bulker. If cement is brought in bags, it is fed into hopper provided in the system from where it is conveyed to the silos with the help of air flow from roots blower (rotary compressor). If cement is brought in bulker, it is directly connected to the system mechanism and conveyed to the silos with the help of air flow from roots blower (rotary compressor).

All About the Twin Lobe Roots Blowers

Roots blowers equipped with impellers consisting of two lobes are referred as twin lobe roots blowers.

Operation of Twin Lobe Roots Blowers

The roots blowers are primarily of the twin lobe configuration and have a pair of impellers with two lobes equipped in each. These are eight shaped impellers rotating in opposite directions on the parallel situated shafts. In these positive displacement or PD type roots blowers the lobes work against the varying pressure to move the air trapped in the spaces between impellers. The impellers in the blower or the air compressor rotate in opposite direction thus carrying the trapped air to the outlet of the compressor.

The impellers rotate at a constant speed at a constant pressure and constant temperature to displace the required volume of air for efficient performance. The volume of air discharged by the blower depends on the speed of the impellers rotating inside the blowers and pressure of the air. The modern air blowers are equipped with the timing gears. These timing gears will control the position of the impellers relative to one another thereby helping to maintain small and definite clearances in between. Therefore lubrication is not required within the air casing in the blower.

As the operation of twin lobe postive displacement roots blower is dependent on the rotation of the impellers these are also referred as the rotary positive displacement blowers at times.

How are Twin Lobe Roots Blowers different from the Tri-Lobe Blowers?

The roots blowers are classified into two categories – twin lobe roots blowers and tri lobe roots blowers. The basic difference between both of them is the number of lobes in the impellers of each. While in the twin lobe blowers there are only two lobes, the tri lobe roots blowers are equipped with impellers consisting of three lobes each. For high pressure and heavy duty applications tri lobe roots blowers are better options than the twin lobe configurations. The tri lobe roots blowers can compress and sweep nearly 6 times the volume of air/gas in a revolution as compared to twin lobe roots blowers. Applications of Twin Lobe Roots Blowers

Pneumatic conveying system, sewage treatment plants, central vacuum cleaning system, aeration in storage silos, charging of kilns in cement and steel plants, effluent treatment plants and water treatment plants are some of the areas where these twin lobe roots blowers are widely used. These Twin Lobe Roots Blowers are used for numerous applications in cement, steel, aluminum, power, chemical, pharmaceutical, petro-chemical, food processing, dairy, space, textile and construction industries.

Conclusion:

The roots blowers are important equipments in several industries. Their operation is based on rotation of the impellers which are responsible for movement of air for various applications in industries.
